Learn Lahaina’s History and Visit Launiupoko Beach Park in this Full Day Bike Tour!

On this full day (eight hours) self-guided tour, you will see a fascinating blend of influences covering Hawaiian history, the whaling era, the missionaries, and immigrant plantation life.

  • Lahaina History and Beyond Full Day Tour Includes:
Lahaina History tour and beyond. You will have an opportunity to learn Lahaina’s history and to explore South Maui Launiupoko Beach Park, and Olowalu beach. The route is 15 miles round trip if you’re riding your bike from the RideSmart Maui Bike shop in Kaanapali.
  • It will take you from Kaanapali to Front Street in Lahaina and to Launiupoko Beach Park and back.

Lahaina’s History highlights:
• Baldwin Home Museum, the oldest standing building in Lahaina.
• Brick Palace, was built in 1798, the first Western-style building in Hawaii.
• Government Market, built by the government for Hawaiians to sell goods to the sailors.
• Hale Piula, a home built for King Kamahameha III.
• Waihee Cemetery, the resting site of Hawaiian chiefs, commoners, sailors, and missionaries and many more!

After exploring Lahaina, Launiupoko Beach Park is a great place to stop and take a break or hit the beach. There’s a small wading pool that is perfect for children, too! You can stop by the Living Earth Systems Farm Stand, right across the street from the beach park for some healthy eats.

If you like to challenge yourself continue down the highway for about 3 miles until you arrive at Olowalu. Stop for a sweet treat (or a full meal) at Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop (open daily 10am – 6pm),or do some snorkeling and swimming at Olowalu beach.

While you are out exploring and enjoying your electric bike, you will also have ample time to stop by the widely popular Front Street shops. Here, you will find a mix of souvenir shops and art galleries to browse through. There are also several restaurants, so you can sample some local cuisines.

  • How does the bike pickup and return work?
You will pick up the bike at 8:30 am. The total time allocated for the self-guided tours is 8 hours. Bikes must be returned by 5:30 pm.

You will receive the coupons when you pick up the bikes, and you can pay for breakfast or lunch at the restaurant.
  • What is an e-bike rescue and what is covered?
Bike rescue is a type of insurance you can add on when making your purchase. The $10 bike rescue fee covers: flat tires and electronics failures within a 7.5 mile radius of West Maui. Taking the bike north of Honolua Bay or south of Olowalu is considered OUTSIDE the West Maui boundaries and is not included. Please keep in mind: The bike rescue insurance must be purchased BEFORE your ride. If you encounter an issue outside of a 7.5 mile radius, an additional fee will be charged based on the distance. If the bike runs out of battery charge outside of the West Maui boundaries it is not covered under bike rescue.

Beginner Riders, please consider the following:

  1. Ask for an evaluation test ride before renting the e-bike. Being able to properly balance, get on, get off a bike and ride making controlled tight turns under your own power as well as pedal assist is critical.
  2. If you are not confident following your evaluation test ride, either cancel before the 24 hours or switch to a tandem bike. You can also rent an e-bike for 2 hours to practice before the group ride to get comfortable.
  3. Rent a Tandem bike (2 people on one bike) utilizing an experienced rider as the lead rider.
  4. Hire a guide to take you on a tandem.
